Machines with processor heads are also a part of today's timber harvesting.

Machines with processor heads also harvest timber in Maine. This type of system cuts the trees to predetermined log lenghs. The logs are loaded on a forwarder and moved to the roadside for trucking to the mill. This machine saves one step at the mill. The log won't have to be slashed at the mill when they want to saw it. They do cut a little slower and most mills don't pay for extra work. Also, if you want to get paid for your biomass, they leave it in the woods and it won't get chipped. Click image for video.
